A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and gave them to children at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two boys who were nine and 10.
The defendant was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he operated.
The defendant played a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She said the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor added: "Recently" his family member had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel explained items including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She explained the defendant continued to play the "treat game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the authorities again.
She stated Ruben then played the "candy game" in a area of five children.
